Nantucket Related Antiques
Growing up on the island, I have always been biased toward Nantucket related pieces, including artifacts of the early settlers, items from the whaling era and crafts made throughout the period of the island's transformation into a vacation destination.
Early items may include the works of Native Americans such as arrowheads, tools and baskets, as well as marine related artifacts and a variety of scrimshaw created during the whaling boom.
Later in the 19th century, island artists and craftsmen began producing wares such as lightship baskets, paintings and sailor boy whirligigs, just to name a few.
All of these art forms are still flourishing and remain part of Nantucket's culture today.
